YNPN Grand Rapids is facilitated by a by an all-volunteer leadership team comprised of motivated and talented young professionals; our board members oversee the organization and work in collaboration with each other and our committees. As a board member you are part of creating a continuing dialog among nonprofits in the greater Grand Rapids community.

Requirements of all board members:

  • Attends regular monthly board meetings (Tuesdays, 4 - 5:30 pm)
  • Is a member of YNPN Grand Rapids
  • Serves a two-year commitment, according to bylaw specifications or a one-year term as a member-at-large
  • Upholds the mission and vision of YNPN Grand Rapids, furthers to organization, and abides by the bylaws
  • Attends an average of one YNPN event per month (conversation starter, luncheon, events, etc.)
  • Manages a committee, if applicable (no applicable for secretary, treasurer, or members-at-large)

Treasurer (2-year term) 

  • Prepares and manages the annual budget
  • Presents monthly financial reports
  • Manages expenses and reimbursements
  • Ensures overall compliance of YNPN Grand Rapids finances
  • Ensures development and board review of financial policies and procedures
  • Prepares financial reports annually
  • Present at events where cash/checks may be presented. If not available, should have task assigned to another offier
  • Develops and tracks bookkeeping system
  • Issues receipts and invoices for membership checks or members seeking an invoice
  • Maintains compliance with tax-exempt status

Secretary (2-year term)

  • Manages by-laws and policies, ensuring all board members are informed and abiding
  • Sets offer meeting dates, times, and places as needed
  • Works with chairs to put together agenda for board and officer meetings and sends to board
  • Sends task alerts and minutes out to board members following each regular board meeting
  • Maintains records of the board and officers, and ensures effective management of organizational records
  • Manages minutes and board and officer meetings
  • Ensures minutes are distributed to members shortly after each meeting
  • Keeps event and meeting attendance records
  • Keeps track of all organizational records for archive
  • Works with membership committee to ensure a proper record of all members is kept
  • Manages and works to provide members of the board development opportunities 

Marketing & Communications Co-Chair (2-year term)

  • Market all YNPN of Grand Rapids events and programs
  • Develop and maintain organizational branding
  • Work closely with the membership chairs to develop communications for outreach to potential new members
  • Maintain website, ensuring all events and membership information is represented
  • Maintains and communicates through all social networking sites
  • Works with designer or designs all YNPN of Grand Rapids traditional brnading materials, including event programs and other event materials

Fund Development Co-Chair (2-year term) 

  • Sponsor acquisition, stewardship and renewal
    • Gather, suggest, cultivate and make the ask of new sponsors
    • Ensure recognition of, appreciation for and commitment follow through for current sponsors
    • Renew sponsorships (beginning after leadership award thank you)
  • Manage "free memberships" if sponsors do not wish to use their memberships on their employees
  • Lead effort to acquire in-kind donations for Leadership Award winner gift bags with support from partnerships and recognition committee
  • Lead efforts, when needed, for other YNPN events to acquire additional sponsors and/or in-kind donations

Leadership & Recognition Co-Chairs (2-year term) 

  • Plan and implement the YNPN Leadership Awards, including location, speakers, location layout, registration, and others as they may be necessary
  • Work with marketing and communications to ensure event registration and information is available on the YNPN Grand Rapids website
  • Attends all events planned by this committee to ensure set up is completed correctly, speakers are all set, and board members are in position for registration
  • Work closely with educational programming to ensure all evening events have a networking element and to plan the calendar of events throughout the year
  • Plan and implement professional development programming in conjunction with community partners (ex: area universities, consultants, nonprofit experts, etc.)

Membership Co-Chair (2-year term) 

  • Recruit new members
  • Seek new benefits for members
  • Develop outreach strategy, alongside marketing and communications, for development of new members
  • Track all YNPN of Grand Rapids members and maintain database of members, along with secretary
  • Track and manage all membership renewals
  • Works with treasurer to ensure all members are receiving receipts and/or invoices for membership payments
  • Attend all events or assign an individual to act as membership representatives at each event
  • Ensure educational programming, and partnership and recognition committees have an updated member list for all events
  • Works with partnership and recognition committee to set agenda for annual membership meeting
  • Host after hour events and/or events with the intent to provide networking and recruit new members

Educational Programming Co-Chair (2-year term)

  • Plan and implement conversation starters and educational programs/luncheons
    • Hold at least a semi-annual lunch
    • Hold at least one conversation starter bimonthly
  • Work with marketing and communications to ensure event registration and information is available on the YNPN Grand Rapids website
  • Plan all event logistics, including food & beverage, location, speakers, location layout, registration, and others as they may be necessary
  • Attends all events planned by this committee to ensure set up is completed correctly, speakers are all set, and board members are in position for registration

Members-at-Large (1-year term)

  • Represent members at board meetings
  • Elicit and respond to feedback from members
  • Work closely with the membership committee on recruitment
  • Work with the membership and educational programming committees to survey members yearly
  • Serve on one committee on the board
  • Plan and implement special initiatives (ex: Jobs Board, Diversity & Inclusion, etc.)
