Prevention Program Educator, Children's Advocacy of Kent County
Description

This position provides body safety education for elementary-age students utilizing the Kids Have Rights (KHR) curriculum, the trademarked prevention program of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Kent County.

These two non-exempt positions are part-time, with hours generally worked between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. between late August and early May (total of 36 weeks per year), with breaks following the school schedule. Work is completed in elementary schools around Kent County or virtually, from the Children’s Advocacy Center of Kent County’s offices in Grand Rapids.

Position 1 – 16-20 hours per week; Position 2 – 26-30 hours per week

• Potential for a trauma-rich environment where children may be in crisis situations

• Pay range $15.90-22.00 per hour; paid training, time off (based on school schedule), personal, and sick time

Responsibilities

• Delivers the Kids Have Rights curriculum in a professional and positive manner to students in elementary age classrooms, effectively interacting with students, staff, and caregivers, addressing concerns as needed

• Supports students making a disclosure and complies with all State of Michigan mandated reporter laws

• Collects and submits timely, accurate, and complete records of student demographics

• Ability to stand for long periods of time in a classroom setting, ability to speak in a clear and understandable manner to a classroom of students, light lifting of up to 35 pounds

• Valid driver’s license and reliable automobile required, regular driving around Kent County; mileage reimbursement

Qualifications

Required Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Minimum 1 year relevant experience working with children, as gained through direct work in schools,

voluntary work, church, daycare, or summer camp setting

• Ability to build rapport with children of all ages, races, ethnicities, and socio-economic backgrounds

• Ability to provide support for children making a disclosure and file required reporting paperwork

• Basic computer knowledge for purpose of documentation and reporting

• Satisfactory completion of all required background screenings and clearances

Preferred Skills

• Two or more years’ college experience in education or social work fields
