After extensive discussions and thorough research, the YNPN.GR Board of Directors is now requiring all job postings to include salary ranges.
As of April 1, 2021, all organizations posting jobs on our site must include a salary range for the advertised role. At YNPN.GR, our mission is to empower emerging professionals to thrive, grow, and build community within the nonprofit sector. We believe in promoting and supporting equity and transparency as part of our ongoing Diversity, Inclusion, Equity, and Anti-Racism (DEIA) initiatives. Leveraging our collective voice and influence, we are committed to doing our part in eradicating procedures and processes that advance systemic discrimination during the hiring process
We acknowledge that this new Job Posting requirement is only a small part that lends to more transparency in the hiring process, but it is a necessary one. Job candidates need to know and trust that they will not be discriminated against even before getting to the interview stage.
One of the most commonly reported forms of discrimination is earnings inequality, which disproportionately affects women and BIPOC.
- The wage gap costs American women approximately $406,280 in lost income on average, but that number can top $1 million for Latina, Black, and Native American Women.
- Women make less than men, in every level of experience, whether they have one year of experience, or twenty years of experience.
- In 2017, full-time, year-round working women earned 80% of what their male counterparts earned.
According to the National Women’s Law Center, “The unfolding impacts of COVID-19 reveal that women, and especially women of color, are bearing the brunt of the longstanding gaps and underinvestment in our workplace laws, economic and social infrastructure, and policy choices that failed to center the needs of women. Women make up nearly two in three front-line workers, and women of every race and ethnicity – but especially Black women, Native American women, and Latinas – are overrepresented in the front-line workforce.”
We recognize the path towards systemic change and an equitable future is long and complex. However, here are things you can begin doing today in your organization:
- Encourage salary transparency across the organization.
- Have the conversation with the board about how much it costs to live in your city.
- Work to decrease salary discrepancies.
- Get salary negotiation training for staff.
YNPN.GR also wishes to thank our members and partnering organizations currently providing salary ranges on our job board and encourage them to continue their efforts toward ending discriminatory recruitment practices.
